You might have come across a certain error message saying “Your PC Needs To Be Repaired” when you boot up your computer on a blue screen. Missing Boot Configuration Data (BCD) is the main reason for this error. You need to try a bunch of methods to solve the issue. 

Your PC Needs to Be Repaired

Let’s go through the problem first before going for the cure. You need to understand why this occurs. 

Cause of The Issue

The main cause for this error is not finding the system files for proper booting. In most cases, the files may be corrupted or something might be missing. This prompts the error code 0xc0000225. 

The error code might vary from time to time depending on the situation. But most commonly you would find  0xc0000225, 0xc0000034, 0x0000098, 0xc000000f, 0xc000014C,0xc0000605 , etc. Let’s see some of the common scenarios where this error might occur. 

BCD Files Missing

The BCD file is either missing or corrupted. The missing/corrupt BCD caused by disk write failures, power outages, and other factors is one of the most typical causes of this problem.

File System Integrity 

The integrity of the file system has been compromised. The file system itself may become faulty or damaged, resulting in the error message “your PC requires repair 0xc0000225.” It happens more frequently if your computer is switched off while the vital data is written to the boot sector.

Wrong Partition 

The active partition is incorrect. “Your computer needs to be repaired 0xc0000225” will also appear if an incorrect partition is set as active. The Boot/BCD file is not in the active partition in this scenario. 

Solution To The Error

There are some methods you can follow that can get you out of trouble. Let’s go through them one by one & see if they can solve your problem. 

Solution 1: Running Automatic Repair/ Run Startup

First of all, you need to turn off your computer & insert the bootable media. It can be a flash drive or a windows DVD. Then restart your computer. 

If you have used a DVD disc, then it should say “Press any key to boot from CD or DVD”. If you insert a USB flash drive as a bootable media then press the right key to boot from it. 

Choose your language preference and click Repair your computer in the bottom-left. Now click on troubleshoot. After that, you will need to go into advanced options. 

There you would find Automatic Repair & click on it. From there click Startup Repair. Wait until the process is completed, you may need to restart your computer. Check whether the error message is gone or not. Then proceed to the next solution.

Solution 2: Run System File Checker and Check Disk

As mentioned earlier, the error can be due to the files being corrupted. You can run a disk check to see whether it can resolve the issue. First, you need to insert the bottle media & boot from it. Select your language preference & go to the advanced option just like the previous solution. 

Now you need to click on Command Prompt. At first type “sfc /scannow” & enter. After that is completed, type “chkdsk c: /f /r”(Here the C stands for the drive your windows is in, if you have another drive, then change the letter) and press Enter.   

Do the same for these commands sequentially “diskpart” “list” “volume” “exit” “c:” “dir” & hit enter for each of them. If this doesn’t solve the issue then you have to go to the next solution. 

Solution 3: Rebuild BCD/ Repair Your Boot

For this method, you have to go into the command prompt just like the previous solution using a bootable media to boot from. Make sure you follow the steps accordingly. Now you need to type in the following commands sequentially. 

• bootrec.exe /Rebuildbcd
• bootrec.exe /Fixmbr
• bootrec.exe /Fixboot

If the above commands fail for any reason, go with the following commands. Type them in accordingly. 

• bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
• c:
• cd boot
• attrib bcd -s -h -r
• ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
• bootrec /RebuildBcd

Finally, exit your cmd & restart the windows to see if it worked or not. Continue to the next method if this hasn’t worked. 

Solution 4: Creating BCD

Just like before, you need to go into the command prompt through the bootable media. Now you need to type in “bcdboot c:\windows” and press Enter. Here C has assumed the drive your windows files are in. 

The preceding command will copy the BCD boot file from an existing Windows partition to the system partition and construct the BCD there. Now get out of cmd & restart your computer again. 

Solution 5: Disable Driver Signature Enforcement Permanently

Again go into the command prompt like before. Now type in the following command sequentially & hit enter. 

• bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
• bcdedit -set TESTSIGNING ON

The exit commands prompt & see if that has solved your problems. 

Solution 6: Set Correct Partition as Active

If you have the wrong partition active then this method would take you to a solution. To proceed with this problem just go to the command prompt step by step like earlier. Now type in “diskpart” & enter. Type the following commands accordingly. 

Then you need to type “list disk” to see the disks. For selecting the disk you have to type DISKPART> “select disk 1”(DISKPART will auto show there, just type in the later”). Then type “list partition”. Then go on accordingly for the following to select the proper partition. 

• DISKPART> select partition 1
• DISKPART> active
• DISKPART> exit

Now restart your computer to apply the changes. Beware that these sorts of problems can cause permanent memory loss. So be careful with the options. 

If this hasn’t worked then you have two options left. Either you can restore the computer to the previous state(as you have tried previous methods that changed settings) or you can reinstall the windows entirely. Even if you do reinstall windows, it’s best to go to the previous state. 

Restoring the Earlier State of the Computer

Insert your bootable media & go to the advanced options page like every other solution. There you would find the “System Restore” option. From there follow the instructions to restore to the earlier point. 

Reinstalling Windows

Let’s assume that unfortunately, every other problem has backfired. Now you have no other choice but to reinstall windows. You have to keep into consideration that the files on your system might get erased due to this. 

You can use other tools that can help you backup your important files to save all the data. Now you need to enter BIOS through the bootable media & follow the instructions on the setup wizard. You should be good to go after the installation has been properly done. 

Is it possible to repair windows 10 without bootable media?

You simply need to press F11 when the boot procedure is going on. From there go to Windows 10 Advanced Startup Options menu. Go to Advanced options & then go into the Troubleshoot menu. Click on Startup Repair to see what the problem is.
