Solutions of “Why Is My Taskbar White” problem

Turning taskbar white is a peculiar behavior indeed. You could not expect by any chance. The problem can hide in settings or come from an anonymous bug. I compile four reasons with the possible solutions for making you relieve.

Let have a short look before diving into details-

  • Check color settings
  • Check Windows mood
  • Region can be a reason
  • Work with Registry Editor

Now, I check all the issues and try to solve them one by one. Stay with me-

Check Color Settings

Your taskbar may take a hint from desktop wallpaper. It is one of the reasons behind the white taskbar issue. The process is known as the accent color. There is a specific option in the color settings, and the good news is, it is changeable.

So, if your taskbar becomes white, I would recommend you to check the color settings first.

Solution:

There are several DIY steps to bring back the original looking of the taskbar.

Step 1

You need to go to ‘Taskbar settings’. To do that, right-click on the taskbar.

Step 2

You will see the ‘Color’ section on the left-sidebar. After selecting it, several options are coming on the right-sidebar.

Step 3

After that, you need to scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the ‘Show accent color on the following surfaces’ option. Then uncheck the ‘Start, taskbar, and action center’ box.

Extra

You can also uncheck the ‘Automatically pick an accent color from my background’ box to disable the accent color option. You will find it in the middle of the ‘Color’ section.

After following these steps, you need to check the taskbar. By any chance, if it is still white, you may need to go to the next solution.

Check Windows Mode

Windows mode can be another reason for the white taskbar issue. You need to check the default Windows mode to ensure either it turns the taskbar white or not. For your kind info, Windows 10 has two modes. These are dark and light.

If the light mode is activated, the problem might hide inside here.

Solution:

We solve this problem according to the following steps.

Step 1

Firstly, you need to go to the color settings section again by following the previous direction. You will find here the ‘Choose your default Windows mode’ option.

Step 2

You will find two options there, Light and Dark. You need to select the Dark option here.

Extra:

If you want to keep dark your taskbar only and keep the other applications white, you need to work with the ‘Choose your default app mode’ option. Here your job is to select the Light option instead of Dark.

For your kind info, you may not find the ‘Choose your default Windows mode’ and ‘Choose your default app mode’ options in the ‘Color’ section. If you face this problem, check the ‘Choose your color’ option and select the ‘custom’ from the dropdown.

But, if you can not solve the issue, you need to jump to next reason.

Region Can Be Reason

The problem can arise from default region settings. Here are some simple steps to check out this.

Solution:

Step 1

You need to press the Windows key and the ‘I’ button together. There will be a ‘Time & Language’ section and need to go inside the option.

Step 2

You will find the ‘Region’ section here. Generally, the region may select by default. So, what do you do here?

You have to select a custom region. I would recommend you to choose such a region where Cortana is not available.

If your taskbar is still white, there is a technical task you need to do.

Work with Registry Editor

Some settings of Registry Editor may cause turning your taskbar white. To identify this, you need to work with the Registry Editor. I would recommend you to follow the exact way how I described it because of technical sensitivity.

Solution:

Step 1

Firstly, you need to press the Windows key and the ‘R’ button together.

Step 2

Then, you would write ‘regedit’ on the Run box and click on ‘Ok’.

Step 3

After that, you have to follow the destination sequences chronologically- HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > Search > Flighting > 0 > WhiteSearchBox

By following this, you will reach the right place where you will find the ‘Value’ folder on the right-sidebar. You need to change the Value data from 1 to 0.

Finally, you need to restart the computer and check the taskbar. You may find your taskbar not getting white anymore.

Final Words

In the final analysis, you can apply these DIY to restore the taskbar from being white. Hopefully, your taskbar finally might have turned dark. But there is a sensible recommendation for you, take your computer to an expert if your taskbar is still getting white. Because there is no DIY solution. If you try to change the internal technical settings, you will lose some of your data from the computer.
